So, I followed the link to the biscuits fascinated by the idea of biscuits make with cornflakes - forgetting that we are "one people separated by a common language." I baked the cookies, anyway (minus the candied cherries which I didn't have.) I see why you have fond memories of them. Thank you.

Welcome back. I've been putting off replacing my ancient shitty bench hook for years, I might have to steal this design. My enduring memory from school woodwork was that the planes were only sharpened during the school holidays and there was no way a lightweight like me could get them to cut for most of the time.

I agree, biscuits and the smell of pine take me to my happy place too. Should we start a support group???

And I posted this before reading the recipe and remembering that you're on the other side of the pond so biscuits mean a different thing to us... haha. I still agree with my previous statement though in both regards.

Ok Ed, I had to try my hand at making a pair of these. Verdict: much more difficult than I thought. And I foolishly fancied myself a decent hand at resawing. I was wrong. My hooks came out pretty wonky dammit!

Thanks for capturing retirement in a nutshell: “With the assurance that comes from being a salaryman, comes also the risk that work spreads like a fungus into private places you don’t want it to. And none of us wants fungus in our private places.”

Biscuits are what I feed my dog. A canteen I had in Boy Scouts and it was to drink water out of when you were hiking.

You guys on the other side of the pond have a different word for everything!
